Congratulations to our friends at C4 Waterman. Dave Parmenter is a guy who has graced this website alot recently, his passion for Stand Up Paddle Surfing and his ability to shape progressive boards has been recognised by Surf Industry Manufacturers Association, a first for a stand up paddle board.
C4 Waterman has been recognized by the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) for its outstanding contribution to the industry by way of its Subvector standup paddle (SUP) surfboard model. The Subvector 9’3", designed by Dave Parmenter, has been nominated for Surfboard Model of the Year. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony during the SIMA Surf Summit in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, May 6-9, 2009.
The Subvector has made a shortlist of five surfboard models, including boards by Rusty, Channel Islands, …lost, and Firewire. It is the only SUP among the finalists.
The goal of the SIMA Image Awards is to identify the surf industry’s most influential companies and recognize them for their efforts to advance and grow the industry over the past year.
"This nomination is a testament to the brilliance of Dave Parmenter’s shaping ability," said C4 Waterman’s Todd Bradley. "It is, without a doubt, the most finely tuned and advanced short standup paddle board on the market."
Brian Keaulana, C4 Waterman co-founder added: "As newcomers to SIMA and the surf industry, this is a real honor for us. To find ourselves in the company of such great surfboard designers gives us major encouragement and further strengthens the belief we have in our designs."
The Subvector is of Thermal Epoxy Compression molding. Its construction is strong, light-weight and eco-friendly. The board is short enough to rip, stable enough for a beginner, and rides with a "feel" that is so important to good surfers.
Based on one of Parmenter’s most successful shortboard models, the Stubb-Vector, this new SUP model has a progressive rocker, flat bottom, firm edges, angular boxy rails, and double-barrel inverted vee panels. The Subvector delivers sports-car-like speed and snappy handling characteristics. Its lightly concave deck blends at the tail into innovative new foot wells that lower the center of gravity of the paddler and grant the rider’s back foot more leverage and grip in radical turns.
