Already his reputation is building up as a world class stand up paddler with his second place at the Battle of the Paddle at the age of 14, now Slater Trout has been signed up by Maui Jim Sunglasses.
Here is the press release: Maui Jim Sunglasses has just signed 15 year old Slater Trout as ambassador for their brand. “Slater is a great guy, I’d say kid but that wouldn’t be fair to all of the elite athletes out there that have competed against him. He represents everything that Maui Jim respects in a waterman. He’s more than just a world class athlete, he’s part of a close family, he’s a good student and he supports those around him everyday both in and out of the water. He’s joining a great team of athletes here at Maui Jim, and thebest thing is you’ve only seen a glimpse of what’s to come from Slater. To say we’re stoked is putting it mildly. Welcome to the O’hana Slater.” says Sponsorship Specialist, Dave Siragusa.
Blessed with natural talent and ability, Slater is a great ambassador for SUP, the fastest growing water sport in the world. Not only a major force in SUP wave events, Slater hasalso proven himself to be a fierce competitor in open ocean racing. Slater recently took 2nd place in the Gerry Lopez Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddle, Elite men’s division in Dana Point California. This invitation only event featured 96 of the world’s top paddlers, Slater being the youngest. Those not familiar with his body of work in Hawaii, where he lives, took notice after this incredible performance. A few of Slater’s other notable accomplishments include, three championship titles at the prestigious Duke’s Oceanfest held each August on Waikiki Beach on Oahu.“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with Maui Jim. It feels like a natural fit being a part of a Hawaii based company that’s in my own back yard, and not to mention that their glasses are unreal!!” says Trout.
