The much anticipated 3rd Annual Surftech SUP SHOOTOUT at the Lane, Santa Cruz, California, is here again this March 18–20!
March is rapidly approaching, and with it comes your chance to compete in one of the worlds premiere SUP surf events. The last two years have been won by accomplished waterman Chuck Patterson, and this year is your chance to dethrone the champ!
Last year we saw plenty of local talent in addition to SoCal’s Patterson such as California natives Michael Roberts and pro kiteboarder Peter Trow, but also attracted surfers from outside California like event rookie Zane Schweitzer from his hometown in Lahaina, HI, who finished with a solid second place.
Schwietzer was pumped on his second place finish, exclaiming, “The Surftech SHOOTOUT was awesome this weekend! You couldn’t ask for better conditions. It was solid 5′-6′ Hawaiian out there today. I’m so stoked! Thanks to Surftech for putting on such a great event.”
The SUP SHOOTOUT will be hosted at an epic surf arena, Santa Cruz’s world-class Steamer Lane. The Lane, known for it’s massive peaks and long lined up walls, could be considered the ultimate high-performance SUP surfing arena.
Here is the footage from the 2010 Surftech SUP SHOOTOUT, the waves look pretty amazing – lets hope 2011 is even better!
Duel-athlon? What’s that?
Anyone who has got on an SUP knows that it is a comprehensive aerobic workout…
Wouldn’t it be awesome to put your fitness and endurance to the test by trying out a fun and challenging multi-stage event in sunny Santa Cruz?
The answer is yes, and that event is here: The Surftech SURF&SAND Duel-athlon. The Duel-athlon challenges you on two levels. Unlike typical paddle races, not only your SUP skills come into play, but a short beach sprint between paddles will get your legs revitalized. The paddle course runs alongside the Santa Cruz Wharf where you’ll hear the local sea lions cheering you on, out to the Yacht Harbor, than back to the beach. After your short beach run along the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, you’ll be back on the water heading outside the kelp bed towards the infamous Steamer Lane, and back towards the Yacht Harbor, before finishing it off with a sand sprint to the finish in front of the Dream Inn.
