Matt from supgower.com sent us a review of his event on the Sunday 30th March 2008. It sounded like a really event and hopefully we will try and get down to the next one. Personally I think the Gower is one of the most exciting places to explorer and surf on a stand up paddle board. Here is Matts review :
The SUP Gower Event was initially planned for the Saturday however the event had to be moved to the sunday because of high winds and rain.
On the sunday morning the demo went ahead with around 15 participants from all sorts of watersport backgrounds coming down to try out this exciting new boardsport on Swansea bay, South wales. The conditions were not ideal with a 15mph South west Breeze challenging the paddlers on their maiden voyages, but with the sun high in the sky after the start of British Summer Time everyone seemed to love the whole SUP experience.
’Its not as easy as its looks’ were common comments from the small crowd but everyone did very well under the conditions and the sunshine certainly helped put a smile on everyones face! The Quiver caddy put in an appearance compliments of Bill Fitzhugh (from jimmy lewis uk) and helped us to carry the boards back and forth up the beach all day.
There were a range of Jimmy Lewis and Gong (Galaxy of new Generations) paddleboards on offer to demo and all participants were met with a BBQ burger and Hot dog after their windy sessions.
The afternoon brought with it clear skies and dropping winds and Bill Fitzhugh and Matt Smith from Sup Gower took on a Glassy session at ‘The point’- Langland to show the locals how it was done – stand up style!
